An estimated 56 million adult Americans suffer from chronic pain. Back pain, neck pain, knee pain, hip pain, arthritis, and migraines are just a few of the problems that people suffer from on a daily basis. Many people have lived with pain for five years or more and experience it almost six days a week!
With so many people suffering from chronic pain, most have turned to medication to help them cope on a day to day basis. Chronic pain has become so common that people have resorted to carrying multiple pain killers with them throughout the day. You will find painkillers in women’s purses, men’s brief cases, in car consoles, and even in children’s back-packs! The sad reality is that the medications, at best, give only temporary relief. Many people end up dependent on the drugs to function. Over time, instead of decreasing the amount of medication needed to address pain, it has to be increased to have the same pain-covering effect. Increasing medication increases money spent dealing with the pain and increases the toxic load on the body, increasing the risk of further health problems.
One medication that many people use to cover their pain is aspirin. In fact, about 80 billion aspirin tablets are taken per year. A recent study published in the World Journal of Gastroenterology looked at the problem of low-dose aspirin-induced small bowel mucosal damage and blood flow. According to the study, “Short-term administration of low-dose aspirin is associated with small bowel injuries and blood flow.”
The truth is that medication only addresses the symptom, so the cause of the problem is rarely ever addressed. As Maximized Living doctors, our mission is to find the cause of the problem, remove the interference, empower individuals to take control of their health and allow the body to heal itself without the need for medication.
