EXERCISE AND DEPRESSION

Exercise has been found to be a viable alternative to traditional medical treatment of depression. In a study involving 80 adults ages 20 to 45 who were diagnosed with mild to moderate depression, researchers looked at exercise alone to treat the condition and found that depressive symptoms were cut almost in half after12 weeks in those individuals who participated in 30 minute aerobic exercise sessions three to five times a week. The results of this study prove that not all patients need to rely on drugs to treat depression. Why isn’t the public being told that exercise and sugar pills work just as well, if not better, than mind altering medications? No drug that I know of on the market can make a 50 percent improvement in a person with depression. Not One!!
